Monday night the Peachtree City Planning Commission will consider changes to the city’s zoning ordinance for land designated as open space.

Currently there’s only one open space zoning category which includes not just city-owned greenbelt and other natural areas but also city-owned property and churches.

A new ordinance being proposed would create a separate open space category for the greenbelt and natural areas called open space-conservation. The other uses for public property, churches and the like would go under the open space-public zoning.

Uses for the OS-P category include undeveloped natural land, churches, paved multi-use paths or natural surface trails, boardwalks, scenic overlooks, playgrounds and picnic areas

Also included in allowed uses are archeological or historic sites, and a building, facility or land that’s either publicly owned, for recreation or open space or for distributing utilities. The ordinance also would allow a boat dock, fishing pier, boat house and related facilities and a public or private golf course including swimming pools and tennis courts.

Uses for the OS-C category include undeveloped natural land, paved multi-use paths or natural surface trails, boardwalks, scenic overlooks, playgrounds and picnic areas. Also included are cemeteries established prior to the ordinance being adopted, stormwater detention facilities and a building, facility or land used for distributing utilities.

Monday’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
