Coweta said “yes” to Saxby Chambliss, with nearly 75 percent of voters Dec. 2 postured to keep him in Washington, as 42 percent of Coweta’s 70,758 registered voters went to the polls.

Locally, Chambliss took 74.97 percent of the vote compared to 25.03 garnered by challenger Jim Martin. A total of 30,036 Coweta voters cast ballots in the race. Chambliss did not do as well statewide, but did take 57 percent of votes.

In the Public Service Commission race, 28,629 voters showed their preference, with Republican Lauren McDonald receiving 74.65 percent of Coweta votes over Democrat Jim Powell’s 25.35 percent. Statewide, McDonald received 58 percent of the vote.

And in Tuesday’s vote on the state Court of Appeals race, Coweta voters gave Mike Sheffield the nod with 51.74 percent of the 24,805 ballots cast over Sara Doyle who received 48.26 percent of the vote. But voters statewide had a different idea. Doyle took the day with 51.8 percent of the vote compared to 48.2 percent for Sheffield.
