Coweta voters mirrored their counterparts statewide Tuesday, sending U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss back to Washington. Forty-two percent of Coweta’s registered voters went to the polls.

Chambliss locally took 74.97 percent of the vote compared to 25.03 garnered by challenger Jim Martin. Chambliss took 57 percent of votes statewide.

In the Public Service Commission race, Republican Lauren McDonald received 74.65 percent of Coweta votes over Democrat Jim Powell and 58 percent statewide.

And in the final race Tuesday, Sara Doyle was edged out by Mike Sheffield, 48.26 percent to 51.74 percent, in the Court of Appeals race but was victorious statewide, capturing 51.8 percent of that vote.
