Meals on wheels benefit

Without the generous support of our community, the comfort and joy of having a delicious meal for the holidays wouldn’t be possible for many homebound seniors in Fayette County.

Each year, Fayette Senior Services, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, delivers nearly 40,000 meals to older adults who are unable to prepare hot, nutritious meals for themselves. The appetizing meals are delivered by a team of dedicated volunteer drivers who truly deliver much more than a meal each week. Quite often, these volunteers also provide the only social contact a homebound senior may regularly receive. In addition, each visit ensures the well-being of the Meals on Wheels recipient so they can continue to live independently in their own home.

Fayette Senior Services “Project Love” Holiday Benefit Drive is a special campaign that enables the agency to purchase extra holiday meals for the nearly 270 homebound seniors throughout Fayette County who receive home delivered meals. Project Love contributions also provide for doctor-ordered Ensure® dietary supplements and additional “shelf-stable meals” that seniors can keep on hand in the event the agency must close due to inclement weather.

For as little as $10 anyone who would like to contribute to this important program can purchase a 2-day Thanksgiving Meal Pack or a 5-day Winter Holiday Meal Pack for $25. There is no limit to the number of meal packs that can be purchased. Donation forms are available for download at www.fayss.org and checks can be mailed to Fayette Senior Services, 4 Center Drive, Fayetteville, Georgia 30214. Checks should be made payable to Fayette Senior Services.

“Our citizens and businesses have always been there with us to make sure that our homebound seniors are not forgotten during this time of year. We are very blessed to live in such a caring community when you consider the rapid growth of our senior population and the increasing demand for important social services like Meals on Wheels,” says Executive Director, Debbie Britt.

Fayette Senior Services, Inc., offers adults age 50 and better, the opportunity to be involved in a variety of social, leisure, educational, wellness and life-enriching activities.  Since 1978, the agency has also provided services that improve quality of life and foster independence such as: Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Referral Service, Information and Referral, Transportation Services, In-Home Services, and Case Management.
