Police: Gunman shot another then killed himself

It appears that the murder/suicide at an east Coweta County residence last weekend stemmed from a domestic dispute. In its wake, 14 year-old Anthony Olbert was killed by his stepfather, Newnan resident Reginald Hines, who subsequently turned the gun on himself after shooting his wife’s uncle and chasing his wife Michella down the street.

The incident occurred Nov. 23 at a Pilgrim Way residence in east Coweta. Michella Hines and her son Anthony Olbert were helping her uncle, Raymond Algere, move into the Pilgrim Way residence, according to Coweta Sheriff’s Maj. James Yarbrough. The incident began when Reginald Hines, 44, who had married Michella a few months earlier, arrived at the residence, Yarbrough said.

Carrying two handguns, Hines shot his step-son in the driveway of Algere’s home and shot Algere in the upper thigh, Yarbrough said. Hines began chasing his wife down the street but turned the gun on himself a couple of doors down, said Yarbrough. Hines was found dead in the street, said Yarbrough.

Yarbrough said Algere has been released from the hospital.

The shootings appear to have stemmed from some type of domestic dispute, said Yarbrough.
