Scores Up on Fall High School Writing Test

The fall 2008 administration of the Georgia High School Writing Test shows an improvement in scores from a year ago with more students scoring in the exceeds category.

The latest results show 3 percent less students meeting the standard while 4 percent more are exceeding the standard. The system also dropped a percent in the does not meet category. The 2008 score breakdown shows 82 percent meeting standards, 15 percent exceeding and 3 percent not meeting standards.

Fayette’s total pass rate is 97 percent, up a percent from last year. In comparison, the state’s pass rate is 71 percent.

Across the board, the county’s students showed improvement in each rating domain. The mean domain scores are 3.7 for Ideas, up from 3.4 last year; 3.6 for Organization, up from 3.3; 3.6 for Style, up from 3.5 and 3.6 for Conventions, up from last year’s 3.6.
