A 15-year-old Peachtree City boy apparently committed suicide at his home Saturday, police said.

Officers were called to the home around 10 a.m., and all evidence at the scene indicates that the action was “self-inflicted,” said Police Chief James Murray. The department will be awaiting autopsy and toxicology reports from the state crime lab before the investigation can be closed, Murray added.

The victim was a student at McIntosh High School, police said. Counselors were at the school Monday to help students and faculty who knew the victim, said schools spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach.

“It’s always sad when we lose a student,” Berry-Dreisbach said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.”

Murray said the department’s main concern now is for the victim’s family and friends. He also urges anyone even contemplating suicide to talk out their issues with “someone they trust,” he said.

Sometimes, a good night’s sleep can sweep away the issues that lead people to consider suicide, Murray added.
