Mr. and Mrs. Brandon H. Stevens of Tyrone announce the engagement of their daughter, Brittany McKinnon Stevens, to Dessie D. Carter Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Dessie Carter of Newington, Ga.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mrs. Barbara B. Fields and the late A. McKinnon Fields of Fairburn, and Mr. and Mrs. Corvis and Peggy Stevens of Marietta. She is an honor graduate of McIntosh High School. She obtained a bachelor of science in avian biology in 2005 and will graduate with honors in May of 2009 with a master of science in biology and a secondary science teaching certification from The University of Georgia.

The groom-to-be is the grandson of Mrs. Eleanor Major and the late Samuel M. Major Jr. of Varnville, S.C., and the late Aldace and Arrie Mae Carter of Newington. He is a graduate of Effingham County High School and obtained a bachelor of science in biological and animal sciences from The University of Georgia. He will graduate with a doctorate of veterinary medicine from The University of Georgia in May 2009.

The wedding will be May, 2009, in Newnan. The couple will honeymoon in Costa Rica.
