The annual Southern Crescent Alzheimer’s Memory Walk in Peachtree City raised some big money again this year for research into the disease. Including in-kind donations, the grand total raised eclipsed $200,000, as about 1,200 participants from Fayette, Coweta, Clayton, Heard, Henry, south Fulton and Spalding counties took part. The Oct. 4 event has become an annual affair since 2000 when the first walk was held. Since then more than $1.3 million was raised to combat the disease. Sponsors and the top fund-raising teams were honored recently at a banquet sponsored by the Rotary Club of Peachtree City and Whitewater Country Club. The funds will be used to help combat Alzheimers and also help nearly 200,000 Georgia residents who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s Disease destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior. It is the most common form of dementia.
