How about a little help for local businesses during the holidays? That was the intention Thursday when Fayetteville City Council adopted a resolution allowing a holiday exemption for business banners.

The city customarily allows for two special event signs (banners) permits per year at a cost of $15 each. The banners can be displayed for 30 days and must be no larger than 50 square feet in size.

The move by the city council to help businesses provides for a exemption allowing a third banner this calendar year. A Special Event permit will still be required but there will be no charge involved.
