Piedmont Newnan Hospital Names New Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer

Piedmont Newnan Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Edward M. Racht, M.D., as vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer.  Dr. Racht will be responsible for providing leadership in all areas of clinical service; directing system-wide quality; facilitating clinical performance improvement; directing patient safety initiatives; developing best practices in managed care; assisting in improving the performance of employed physician practices; and furthering medical collaboration and innovation to provide the community with enhanced medical care. 

Dr. Racht graduated from Emory University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and obtained his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine.  After completing a residency program in internal medicine at the Medical College of Virginia, he held teaching positions there until moving to Austin, Texas to become medical director of the Austin/Travis County Emergency Medical Services System.  Dr. Racht is well published and has often presented at both national and international levels on topics of emergency and trauma services.

Dr. Racht and his wife, Cheryl, and their three children will be relocating to the Newnan area.
