Elizabeth “Bette” Pine Klein, 81, died Jan. 24, 2006. She was born Oct. 22, 1924 in Bayliss, Ill. She was preceded in death by her sons, Terry and Garry Thoreson. She was employed by the Department of the Navy in Washington, D. C. When she retired in 1964 she was the first woman comptroller in the Navy. She accumulated 25,000 volunteer hours as a hospital volunteer in D. C., Maryland, Ohio, and Florida. A memorial service will be this Friday, Feb. 3, at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peachtree City. The service is at 10:30 a.m. with fellowship to follow at the church. Another service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, Port St. Lucie, Florida, at a later date. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Frank O. Klein, whom she married in 1970; a sister, Maradell Smith, Woodford, Va.; children, Judge Richard and Leslie Klein, Peachtree City, Judith A. and Dr. Robert Taylor, Asheville, N. C., Linda R. and Gary Hall, Haymarket, Va.; and Judith Pasquini, Silver Spring, Md.; grandchildren, Shallon Thoreson, Kristina Taylor Lewis, Robert Taylor, Jeffrey Klein, David Klein, Michael Klein, and Ashley and Lindsay Hall; three nephews; and three nieces.
