Cal Beverly must have gone to the same journalism school that Steve Brown went to — the one that taught not to let facts get in the way of your opinion of what you perceive the truth to be.

The Steve Brown council initiated the garbage monopoly issue. Had Cal gone to the meeting or talked with his reporter he may have learned that the City sent out eight Requests for Proposal and just two vendors submitted bids. Further, only three vendors currently service Peachtree City. Our City staff is good, but I doubt they could do the proposal process in the 14 days this council has been in office. Cal should direct his criticism at his man Brown. This council defeated it.

Steve Brown also initiated the golf cart registration idea as a revenue generator with public safety as a collateral benefit. Brown proposed registering golf carts every three years with a $15 fee. Steve Rapson asked staff to determine what fee would be revenue neutral, which is $12. This council put the public safety concern foremost when they approved the $12 fee and registration renewal every five years. Again, Cal should criticize Brown.

The denser development issue is one Steve Brown punted because it came just before the run-off election. Brown could have disapproved the request and forced the developer to wait six months before resubmitting another request to the current council.

The engineering firm is the one Brown approved to advise the City about storm water run off. This council, just 14 days in office, has not addressed any storm water utility issues.

How quick Cal forgot that Brown lifted the annexation moratorium, established a cumbersome review process and went to Weiland about annexing 350 acres of 900. Brown’s plan was a piecemeal approach to the West Village. This council has not dealt with annexation.

This council has yet to propose any rezoning or redevelopment plans for Peachtree City. Any plans in place can be attributed to Brown. If Cal doesn’t like the plans he needs to place the blame where it belongs, on his man Brown.

The Water and Sewer Authority reported to the Brown council last year that they will have 500,000 gallons per day in excess capacity when Peachtree City is built out. Brown could have directed the authority to sit on the excess capacity, but he didn’t. The revenue generated from the extra capacity will keep our rates lower.

My, my, my, Cal. If you’re so misinformed about Peachtree City, how far off is your opinion about the County?
