Just in time for Veteran's Day, new signs honoring veterans have been installed along Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan. The city’s street department crew completed the installation of three signs on Monday. The signs are located just beyond the new roundabout and on either side of the intersection of Lower Fayetteville Road with Newnan Crossing Bypass.

Several months ago, Glen Bexley, a Newnan veteran, approached the Newnan City Council with the idea of honoring local veterans by naming a prominent street within the city. Given the green light by the city, Bexley worked with Public Works Director and City Engineer, Michael Klahr, on the details for the signs and possible locations for installation.

“I am pleased this project has come to completion,” said Bexley. “When I had the idea to honor all veterans and not just a few or a specific group, I approached the county and the city about naming Lower Fayetteville Road as ‘Newnan/Coweta Veterans Memorial Parkway.’ I requested this road because of its high visibility and high volume of drivers. My hope is that everyone who sees the new signs will take a moment to honor all veterans.”

No mailing or business addresses will be affected by this change. This is strictly an honorary name change.

The road signs were paid for by local contributions solicited by Bexley.
