The McIntosh High School wrestling team celebrated Senior Night last Tuesday with a convincing 53-12 win over Mundy’s Mill. Prior to the match Athletic Director Steve Cole and head coach Nick Bellantoni recognized and honored the wrestling careers of senior wrestlers Eric Langley, Alan Sarvis, Matt Penn, Alex Shoemaker, Scott Ritter and Jeff Hilt. Also recognized for their contributions were senior managers Erin Milani, Lauren McDonald and Katie Wilkinson. “It has been a pleasure to have these athletes and managers as a part of the wrestling program at McIntosh,” said Coach Nick Bellantoni. “They have helped to build up the program through their hard work and dedication. The Seniors made a huge commitment of their time to be at practice, coach the younger wrestlers and help us become a stronger team. I want to make special mention of our Managers. Often time people do not see the hours that they put in to help the team be successful. Without their dedication it would be ten times harder to be competitive.” In the competition the Chiefs dominated the match by winning 11 of the 14 weight classes with six of the wins by pin. Seniors Eric Langley (103), Alan Sarvis (120), Scott Ritter (171) all won their matches with Ritter taking his by pin. Other winners on the night include Jarrod Chamblee (112), Jessy Toscano (125), Matt Bozone (135), Carl Scheumann (140), Landis Ford (152), Matt Carroll (189), and Tank Smith (275) who used a lateral drop to take his opponent to his back and pin him in the most exciting match of the night. Taking losses in the match were Alex Shoemaker, Matt Penn and Jeff Hilt. In the Junior Varsity competition Antonio Ferrell and Jacob Worthington both won their matches by Pin while Robert Smith and Daniel Burton suffered losses. In the Crossbone Classic last weekend McIntosh placed 11th. Place winners for the Chiefs were Penn (145), Shoemaker (160) and Carroll (189), all placing fourth.
