L. H. "Pat" Raines, 90, Peachtree City, died Sept. 28, 2008. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kati Ross. He served as a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II, flying both B-25s and B-24s. He is credited with flying 65 combat missions in the Southwest Pacific combat zone. After release from active duty in 1945 he served in the United States Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers in Washington D.C. Originally from Ashburn, Ga., he was a graduate of Georgia Tech, receiving a B.S. in civil engineering, class of 1948. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City, and involved in many civic endeavors. Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Ga. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Janie Raines, Peachtree City; children, Ann Baboylan, Vinings, and sons Scott and Andres, David A. and Cathie Raines, Marietta, and their children, Ben Murray, Hillary and Cody Raines, Lee Raines and his partner, Drew De Los Reyes, New York City, Clark Raines and daughter, Meredith, Tyrone, and Susan Ross, Atlanta. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity or the Special Olympics. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge. login to post comments |
