NCR expansion includes solid salariesFri, 10/31/2008 - 3:46pm

The 560 new jobs coming to NCR’s Peachtree City campus will be quite well-paying positions, according to data released by the Fayette County Development Authority. Staffers across the entire center are expected to average between $60,000 and $75,000 a year, officials said. The call center portion of the project isn’t designed for basic customer support but instead for highly technical assistance, said Matt Forshee, who has worked on this project since January for the development authority. “It’s like your company’s network IT guy calling tech support to fix a problem - these are high level problems that require assistance and so require high level people,” Forshee said. The addition of 560 jobs to the 413 staffers already working at NCR’s Peachtree City campus was touted as a big win for the city, and for Georgia. Because of the magnitude of the project, NCR will get a property tax break for 10 years from both state and local taxes. In the first year the tax break is 90 percent of the normal tax bill, and it declines by 10 percent each successive year, Forshee said. NCR is also receiving a special jobs tax credit that will refund $500 per employee for the first 200 employees who have a minimum annual salary of $60,000 a year, Forshee said. NCR is an industry leader in self-serve kiosks from automated teller machines to retail checkouts. NCR products are also deployed in the self-serve check-in kiosks for Delta Air Lines at Hartsfield International Airport and also at self checkout lines at Home Depot. Much of the renovation to the 360,000 square foot campus will be in upgrading computer systems and telecommunications, Forshee said. In becoming a training center, NCR anticipates hosting 125 trainees a week for a total of 6,250 a year, Forshee said. Those people will be staying at local hotels and eating at local restaurants, he noted. The company expects to be hired at full staff within three years, he added. NCR’s 2007 revenue was $4.97 billion with 23,200 employees worldwide. The company took in $1.38 billion in the quarter ending Sept. 30, an increase of 8 percent from the same quarter last year. The company’s current location is at 200 Ga. Highway 74 South. login to post comments |
