One arrest has been made and others are pending in an Oct. 27 home invasion in Sharpsburg where a couple was pistol whipped and one of their vehicles stolen. Decatur resident Star Woods was arrested late Wednesday on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping, according to Coweta Sheriff’s Office Maj. James Yarbrough. The incident occurred at approximately 8 a.m. Oct. 27 as Line Creek Cove subdivision resident Fernando Horton went outside to ready one of his vehicles for his towing business. Horton found three men hiding under his vehicles, all carrying guns, Yarbrough said. The men, ranging in height from 5’6” to 6’5,” were later described as black males wearing dark clothes, masks and gloves, according to Yarbrough. Horton confronted the men and was made to lie on the ground where he was hit on the back of the head with a shotgun carried by one of the men, said Yarbrough, adding that the men wanted his keys and money. Yarbrough said one or more of the armed robbers also went inside the home searching for money and keys and located Horton’s wife, who was also pistol whipped. Horton at one point was able to elude the armed men and ran to a neighbor’s home yelling for help. The neighbor, a former Meriwether County officer, exited his home with a weapon, said Yarbrough. Gunfire was exchanged prior to the perpetrators driving off in Horton’s truck, Yarbrough said. Neither Horton nor his neighbor were hit during the exchange of gunfire. Yarbrough said Horton’s truck was found abandoned a short distance away, where the perpetrators had fled in the scene in a leased 2009 Dodge Journey van. Star Woods, who had leased the escape vehicle, was located and arrested, he said. Yarbrough said Thursday that Woods might have been covering for one of the perpetrators thought to be her boyfriend. Horton told deputies he believed the perpetrators knew him from the towing business, Yarbrough said. Yarbrough said the investigation is ongoing. login to post comments |
