10. Schools would be located near actual students, instead of near land purchased by board Chairperson Terri Smith’s husband and/or his cronies. 9. Students would not be bussed from one city to another in an attempt to fill schools built in locations without the population to support them. (See reason 10.) 8. Peachtree City, the largest city in the county, would have one person out of five on the school board who might consider the welfare of Peachtree City students as opposed to having some deep-seated, unfounded resentment toward children who live in that “upstart” town. 7. Someone on the school board would actually ask, and answer, the question, “What is the best decision for the kids?” instead of, “How can I spin this decision so it looks as if I’m doing something that benefits the school system instead of myself and my friends?” 6. Two words: Account-ability. 5. We in Fayette County would have a board member who is a mom with three children in the school system—someone who thinks of how decisions really affect children, instead of thinking about how decisions might affect school statistics. 4. In a novel change, redistricting decisions will be made based on where student populations and schools are located, and children will be allowed to go to school in their own communities. 3. Decisions affecting our students and schools will be made at school board meetings, instead of at super-secret junta gatherings. 2.
