On Nov. 4, Amendment 2 will be on the ballot. Voting for this amendment will allow the money you are taxed for education to be used by developers, etc.

The Georgia Supreme Court on Feb. 2, 2008, unanimously interpreted that the constitution meant that tax dollars collected for education should not be used for anything else.

Our esteemed legislators wasted no time in trying to change this by proposing an amendment that would negate this decision.

I have no children in the Georgia school system, so technically it would seem I have no dog in this fight. But the truth of the matter is that it behooves us all to see that this amendment is defeated.

Already our schools do not have the monies needed to supply all the things needed in classrooms. Many teachers spend their own money so their students do not go without needed items. We rank low when put up against other states.

Why in the world would our legislators want to make any tax monies collected for education available for developers?

Can you say ”lobbyist,” “campaign donations” and — last but not least — ”Shame on you” to our elected officials for not putting the educational needs of our children before those of developers?

Of course, you may vote any way you choose, but I think our children are more important than lining the pockets of developers. Therefore, I will be voting NO on this amendment on Nov. 4.
