2008 Great Chili Challenge this SaturdayTue, 10/28/2008 - 3:10pm

The Line Creek Civitan Club will host the 2008 Great Chili Challenge at Shakerag Knoll in Peachtree City Saturday, November 1 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The challenge will include both professional and novice competitors competing in several different categories. “All proceeds from this event will support local community charities and Civitan projects that work to improve the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities” said Nell Howell, president of Line Creek Civitan. Warren Pincombe, past Civitan president reported that “programs and organizations supported by Civitans in Peachtree City and our surrounding communities include the Sams School, the American Cancer Society’s ‘Relay for Life,’ Special Olympics, Special People of Fayette County, DART (Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation for Teens), Christian City, Southwest Christian Care, and the Civitan International Research Center which brings together top scientific minds, and the latest technology, to create innovative therapies and treatments for people with developmental disabilities.” Shakerag Knoll is located at 191 McIntosh Trail, Peachtree City. Adult general admission is $5 and $2 for ages 6-17. Children under 6 are free. The entry fee for individual contestants and non-profit organizations is $20. Commercial entrees and businesses must register as a sponsor and pay a fee of $250.00. 1st & 2nd Place Awards • People’s Choice for all Contestants. The best chili voted best by all around by the attending public. This is the only award voted on by the attending public. • Judge’s Choice for individual or non-profit organization contestants. Voted best all around by official judges. • Judge’s Choice for business and commercial contestants. Voted best all around by official judges. • Best Decorated Booth for all contestants. Determined by official judges and includes theme, name of chili, creativity and attire. • Best Junior Youth Category (Grades 6 thru 8). Voted best by the official judges. • Best Senior Youth Category (Grades 9 – 12). Voted best by the official judges. “This will be a great day of fun, fellowship and great chili!” says event chairperson Julia Ivey.
