By: The Citizen
The annual Perlieu (Per’-loo) Stew sale, the only one of its kind, will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church on Nov. 1, from noon until 5 p.m., unless it’s sold out earlier. This is the primary fundraiser for the missions of the Bethany United Methodist Women (UMW) and the money raised goes to all ministries supported by the UMW. Plates are $8 for adults and $5 for children. Pints are $6 and quarts are $10. “Perlieu stew is similar to Brunswick stew, except with chicken as the meat,” said the Rev. Sally Oakes, pastor of Bethany. “In the old days, it was a community event where the women picked the last of their garden vegetables and the men went hunting and whatever they gathered or hunted went into the stew. We’ve now settled into a nice recipe and the whole event, though it’s a lot of work, is a wonderful time of fellowship and sharing — as well as raising money for great ministries.” Bethany is on Rivers Road at the intersection of Lee’s Mill, Milam and Rivers roads. login to post comments |
