‘Heart Cry’ anniversary events help needy children here and abroadTue, 10/28/2008 - 2:23pm

During the first week of November, Heart Cry, a local ministry dealing with adoption, foster care and orphans, will host two events that will coincide with its first anniversary — a pasta dinner and a 5K race. On Friday, Nov. 7, Heart Cry will host a Pasta Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction at New Hope Baptist Church. All proceeds will benefit orphaned and displaced children living in Thailand. “Missionaries in Thailand are in need of a four-wheel-drive vehicle to carry supplies like food, clean water, blankets and shelters to orphaned children living in refugee camps or hiding in the jungle across the Burmese border,” a spokesperson said. “Most of these children were displaced or orphaned during attacks on their villages.” On Saturday, Nov. 8, New Hope will host its eighth annual Harvest Classic 5K race. This year’s race entitled “Footsteps for the Orphan” will benefit Heart Cry. This year’s events include a 5K walk/run, kids fun run, kid friendly activities such as clowns and crafts, door prizes and Chic-fil-A biscuits. Proceeds from the race will help provide funds to move the orphanage in Haiti to a safer location. Heart Cry is a ministry bringing awareness to churches and the community about adoption, foster care and orphans around the world. Over the past year Heart Cry has organized the sponsorship of 110 children living in an orphanage in Haiti, organized support for mission teams traveling to Haiti and Thailand, provided meals to Fayette Youth Protection Home children and house parents, hosted Grace for Children informational meetings and provided childcare for local foster families on eight different occasions.
