I am Cyndi Plunkett, a candidate for City Council, Peachtree City Post 4. In this first essay I would like to introduce myself, briefly give you my thoughts on some of the issues facing Peachtree City, and convince you that I am the best candidate for City Council. My husband Tim and I have three children. I currently serve Peachtree City as an appointed Recreation Commissioner. During our 14 years in PTC, I have been a tireless volunteer for our community. My demonstrated management skills are augmented by my past experience as a lawyer and the valuable business experience obtained as a co-founder and former owner of The Peachtree Education Station. The following are some of the issues that Peachtree City needs to focus on. Our traffic situation must be alleviated. We can do this through proper planning, adding road outlets, and working constructively with our neighbors and the DOT. To prepare for the future, our cart paths and infrastructure concerns have to be addressed. Our recreation department should continue to support our youth and retirement community by enhancing and adding recreation facilities through public-private partnerships. We must encourage desirable business development that enhances life in Peachtree City. Working with the Fayette Development Authority, the PTC Development Authority, the state, and other entities, we can bring quality businesses to Peachtree City. Finally, fiscal responsibility is not discretionary, and we must be accountable. Based on my past experiences and accomplishments, I was encouraged by a broad spectrum of citizens to run for this post. Prior to committing to this endeavor, I did my homework in order to best represent a wide variety of Peachtree City residents. I met with city staff, council members, volunteers on authorities and associations, and have attended numerous meetings. I read countless articles, traffic studies, and briefs. As a Rec Commissioner, I have experienced, first-hand, how our local government functions. Your council representative should not only understand, but be active in Peachtree City’s daily events. I am convinced that PTC will continue to prosper and our “problems” can be repaired with positive leadership. I can provide that leadership. I encourage and thank you in advance for your participation in this important process. Visit my Web site at www.cyndiplunkett.com for more information.
