In honor of Marv Daniel McGill, 16-year-old high school junior Bria Hamlett will conduct an inagural Faith Walk on October 18. Hamlett brings the walk to her community, Fairburn, Ga., in an effort to support and encourage others to continue on despite difficult circumstances.

Almost one year ago Hamlett’s father lost his battle against alcohol abuse.

“He put up a fight, but he lost the struggle,” she said. “My dad also played basketball in high school, so he knew how much basketball meant to me. I’ve played ball for many years, although my dad never came to see me play. Without a doubt I know my dad loved me. Since then the thought has crossed my mind to give up. But I won’t, simply because I can’t. I still have a fighting chance. My goal is to encourage all that whatever they’re going through never give up, instead, keep moving forward.”

For this reason, Hamlett has a strong interest in assisting others who have been in similar situations. As a result, she decided to organize a walk which she titled the Faith Walk. The walk will begin at 8 a.m. and will begin and end at Campbell Middle School, 91 Elder Street in Fairburn, Ga.

In order to help make this not-for-profit event successful, you may walk and or pledge.
