The Fayette County Historical Society will welcome Joel Cowan at its meeting Sunday, Oct. 19.

Cowan, founder and developer of Peachtree City, will relate the pride the city feels at celebrating its 50th anniversary next spring.

Continuing in its series of local people sharing an oral history, the historical society held its September meeting at Starr's Mill where local historian, Bobby Kerlin, related stories of growing up there to the delight of 88 Fayette Countians to came to hear them.

The society meets at its history center, 195 Lee Street, the white shingle building just behind the American Legion Post Building, a block south of the old courthouse building in Fayetteville.

Cowan, a native of Cartersville, is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial management. He developed a plan for Peachtree City, stuck to the plan, and will relate how he and others made it work.

The meeting begins at 3 p.m. and you do not have to be a member to be on hand. There will be light refreshments afterwards.
