The trend of sweeps continued on Tuesday as numerous local teams swept or got swept by their opponents. Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls both fell to Fayette County on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers lost 47-28 as Tessah Holt scored 20 points for the visiting Lady Tigers and Starr’s Mill was led by five points from Meredith Lytle. The boys fell in a close game, 71-65. Cameron Carruthers led the Tigers in scoring with 23 points, while Mark Harris scored 22 points for Starr’s Mill. Northgate’s boys and girls both fell to Creekside. The Lady Vikings lost 48-33, while the boys lost 84-30. Ron Barfield and Carly Wynn each had seven points for the girls, while Gary Bailey led the boys with 10 points. Landmark Christian’s boys and girls both picked up wins over East Coweta. The Lady War Eagles, paced by Christian Hunnicutt’s 21 points, defeated the Lady Indians 48-26. Shasta Ellison scored 14 points. The Landmark boys outlasted the Indians 59-56 and got another big game from Stoney Hill who scored 18 points. East Coweta’s Antonio Gates was the leading scorer on the night with 26 points. Sandy Creek’s boys and girls swept past Whitewater. The Lady Patriots won 60-44 and were led by 21 points from Morganne Campbell. Whitewater’s girls were led by Brittany Vinings and Jackie Gittens who each scored 11 points. The Sandy Creek boys won 66-51. It was a game that showed the opposite directions that the two teams are currently heading in. The Patriots have won three games in a row and five of their last seven, while the Wildcats have lost four of their last five. The only match that was a split on Tuesday were the games between Woodward Academy and McIntosh. The Lady Chiefs lost 59-34, despite 26 points from Erin Justice, while the boys won a thriller, 54-50. The Chiefs led 22-20 at the half and pushed the lead to 14 points at one point in the fourth quarter. Turnovers proved costly though and the Chiefs found themselves tied with the War Eagles headng into the final minute of the game. Evan Meyers put McIntosh ahead 52-50 with an uncontested layup off of a turnover and J.T. Piribek intercepted a Woodward pass and got the ball to Vaughn Page who iced the win by hitting two free throws after being fouled immediately. Page was the team’s high scorer for the third straight game with 18 points, while Piribek chipped in 10 points of his own. Next week will be the final week of the regular season with tournament play starting the folowing week. login to post comments |
