Census Data shows that the majority of adults in Peachtree City are between the ages of 40 and 55. Yet, at least when it comes to adult softball, they have become an invisible majority. When the Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Department starts registering teams for its Spring Softball Leagues next month, it will once again offer a Men’s 40-And-Over League. But Athletic Coordinator Jim O’Connell wonders if the 40-and-overs will show up.

“We offer a 40-and-over league every year, but we haven’t had enough teams to play it for several years now” O’Connell said. “It surprises me that, while overall participation in softball has almost doubled in the last four years, the 40-and-over group hasn’t come back.”

Softball is a great activity for the older athlete, according to O’Connell. “It isn’t a full-blown aerobic workout like basketball or tennis, but it does have opportunities for the player to exert himself. Plus, we strive to match up teams in divisions with teams of similar talent level, so the games are competitive. And it is a lot of fun!”

With this in mind, O’Connell is putting out the call to the over 40 crowd. “With the general popularity of softball here in Peachtree City, I think it would be great to get enough teams to set up a separate 40-and-Over League this year. If you’ve been a player in the past but have got away from it, or even if you’ve never played before, we’ve got a place for you.”

Registration for the Spring Softball Leagues in Peachtree City will begin in February. Returning teams can register beginning on the 13th, and new teams can sign up starting on the 20th.
