Sumner Road now OK for golf cartsTue, 09/30/2008 - 3:37pm

Residents from The Landings subdivision left the Fayette County Commission chambers very happy Thursday evening. The Fayette County Commission voted unanimously to authorize Sumner Road as a street for motorized golf cart usage. The vote now legally allows residents in The Landings subdivision just east of the city limits to use the road for access to Peachtree City. In a letter to the County Commission, Mike Flynn, who represented The Landings’ homeowners, said golf car usage started in the subdivision in 2000. “In 2001, golf cart access to Sumner Road by residents of The Landings subdivision was gained by permission of the property owners through the rear of two lots within the subdivision and the Coweta-Fayette EMC property at the corner of Sumner Road and Ga. Highway 54,” wrote Flynn. Flynn said the homeowners were informed a year ago that Sumner Road was not approved for golf cart usage. Flynn brought the matter to Fayette County’s attention and Planning Director Pete Frisina researched the issue. After consulting with public safety officials, Frisina recommended the road be approved for cart usage. “It’s a local road with a 35 miles per hour speed limit, so we don’t have a problem with this,” he added. In other news, north Fayette resident Alice Jones complimented the county’s efforts towards obtaining the 30214 ZIP code for residents in the northern part of the county. “This has been something that has been in the works for 25 years. I don’t know what you folks did to get the attention of the Postal Service, but we’re grateful,” said Chairman Jack Smith. The county will discuss the issue further at tomorrow afternoon’s workshop meeting that starts at 3:30 p.m. login to post comments |
