Fully-equipped unit given by Governor’s Office of Highway Safety

The Peachtree City Police Department won a fully-equipped police car at the recent banquet for the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

Police Lt. Mark Brown represented the department as he was given one of 10 keys that could possibly start the award activation box, which would signal when the winning key was used. Brown was the third officer to turn the key as fellow officers looked on including Chief H.C. “Skip” Clark, Major Mike DuPree, Sgt. Matt Myers, Cpl. Jay Hughes and Cpl. Brian Jantosciak.

“It was an amazing feeling when the blue light started,” Brown said, as the light indicated his key was the winning key. “This is an incredible award from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for all the effort and teamwork that the department puts into promoting traffic safety and education.”

Brown coordinates numerous events and safety checks to help educate city residents. He also completes an annual report on those activities and enforcement programs which is submitted to GOHS. In 2005 the department was named the “Rookie of the Year” for its efforts and in 2007 it won first place among departments of similar size.

GOHS sponsors a number of programs aimed at reducing serious accidents on our roads and highways through speed control, seat belt usage, drug and alcohol avoidance, or driver education.
