W. A. "Mickey" Williams Jr., Sharpsburg, died Sept. 21, 2008. He was born in Birmingham, Ala., on July 15, 1925. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winston A. and Ruth Williams Sr., a sister, Lavelle Petty, and a son, Joe Williams. He was a veteran of World War II having served as a member of the United States Army 29th Division, 115th Infantry, during the D-Day Normandy invasion, and was captured and held prisoner by the Germans until the end of the war. He was a member of the World War Il Roundtable, the VFW, The Gideon's International, Ramah First Baptist Church, and was a charter member of Canongate Country Club. Services were at the Ramah First Baptist Church with the Rev. Daryl O'Barr officiating. Interment was at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jean Lovelace Williams, Sharpsburg; sons, Allen and Ilu Williams, Orlando, Fla., and Jim Williams, Woodstock; a daughter, Cathie and Dale Lakeman, Wedowee, Ala.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be given to The Gideon's International, P. O. Box 626, Sharpsburg, GA 30277. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge. login to post comments |
