Members of American Legion Post 105 gather at the log cabin in Fayetteville Sept. 18 for a semiannual ceremony prescribed in the flag code to retire a large number of worn American flags. A prayer and “Taps” were preceded by these words: “A flag may be a flimsy bit of gauze, or a beautiful banner of silk. Its artistic value may be trifling or great, but its real value is beyond price, for it is a precious symbol of all that we and our comrades have worked for, lived for and died for. To clean and purging flame we commit these flags worn out in worthy service.
