At the last meeting of the Fayette Citizens for Open Government (FayCOG), I was asked to meet with Commission Chairman Jack Smith to see what would be involved with getting more detail in the County Commission minutes.

Our concern arose from the minutes taken in June, which were relatively sparse, and did not provide enough information for citizens to know what really went on.

As I researched for the meeting, I discovered that the minutes taken at the Aug. 14 commission meeting were quite adequate, and in sufficient detail that the gist of all discussions was readily discernible.

Unfortunately, I discovered this after Harold Bost talked with The Citizen, and too late to correct the story.

I’m proud of the Board of Commissioners for tightening up on the minutes, and the timely manner in which they were posted online. I hope those minutes can be used as somewhat of a standard for the future.
