On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Fayette County Public Library will host local entrepreneur and author Quincella Geiger, who will offer a free information session on how to start up a baking business from home. The program begins at 1 p.m. and will be followed by a book signing. Geiger will sell and sign copies of her book, “Bringing Home the Baking,” a comprehensive guide based on the author’s own experience launching her business, Unique Occasions. Proceeds from sales of the book benefit the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library, the nonprofit organization that provides significant financial support for library programs and services. Geiger has loved baking ever since she was a small child. Throughout the years, baking and collecting recipes continued to be her favorite hobbies. During holidays, she always had more requests for baked goods than she could handle. After resigning her position with a railway company in Atlanta in 1985, she decided to parlay her lifelong pastime into a money-making, home-based business. In the years since, she has provided specialty desserts and gourmet gifts to restaurants, delicatessens, hotels, private clubs, colleges, hospitals, commercial real-estate management companies, and more. Says Geiger, “Owning and operating a home-based baking business has been profitable, fun, exciting, challenging, frustrating and a tremendous learning experience!” It’s an experience that compelled her to write “Bringing Home the Baking,” in hopes of helping others benefit from what she went through. The one-hour information session offers an overview of the process of starting a home-based baking business, from planning, financing and structuring the business, to selecting equipment and focusing on a specialty, to marketing and advertising. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask Geiger questions following the presentation. Those interested in learning more in greater depth and detail may purchase a signed copy of the “Bringing Home the Baking” book (regularly $14.95) at the special event price of $10. The Fayette County Public Library is located at 1821 Heritage Park Way, Fayetteville, behind the Fayette County administrative complex.
