Douglas Henry "Doug" Cobb, 65, Fayetteville, died Sept. 19, 2008. He was born Feb. 16, 1965 in Greeneville, S.C., son of George and Johnsie Cobb. The family moved to Rock Hill, S.C. where he remained until graduating from Winthrop Training School in 1961. He enrolled The Citadel in 1965 on a football scholarship and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army upon graduation. He earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Georgia in1973 and spent 27 years in the military including combat assignments in Vietnam and Iraq, where he served as the senior officer in charge of POWs and security for the entire Desert Storm operation. He reported directly to Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, and received six medals. He retired from the Army in 1993. Services were at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Soulen officiating. Interment was at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga., with full military honors. Survivors include Susan Cobb, Fayetteville; brothers, George and Barbara Cobb, Taylors, S.C., and Charlie and Joan Cobb, Columbia, S.C.; sons, Douglas and Lisa Cobb, Brent and Donna Cobb, and Jonathan Cobb, Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Tern Cobb, Atlanta; a grandson, Dylan; granddaughters, Sara Beth and Anna Ruth, Moore, S.C., Reagan, Atlanta, and Alexis; nephews, George Cobb Jr., Lubbock, Texas, and Nate Cobb, Houston, Texas; a niece, Catherine Smith, Clinton, S.C.; a stepson, Drs. Mathew and Traci Autera; and a stepdaughter, Natalie and Michel Weiss. Memorial donations may be given to the Peachtree City United Methodist Church, 229 Robinson Rd., Peachtree City, GA 30269.
