Through the first half of their game Friday, neither Fayette nor Luella was able to score.

Fayette took the first lead of the game on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jensen Floyd on the opening drive of the second half.

Then Luella tied the game later in the quarter, before exploding for 25 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Fayette 31-6 Friday.

Fayette (0-4) still has yet to win a game this season.

“We played pretty well for almost three quarters,” Fayette coach Tommy Webb said. “Then the wheel’s fell off. The fourth quarter was a bad quarter. The momentum kind of jumped on Luella’s back.”

Fayette established its running game — a significant problem this season — with fullback Patrick Blankenbeker (12 carries, 58 yards) paving the way for running back Tim Pettaway, who ran 14 times for 86 yards.

But Luella’s defense bent but didn’t break for most of the game.

The first half was Fayette’s “best half defensively,” Webb said.

Nose tackle Malcolm Reed (four tackles, two sacks) and defense end Martiniek Adamson stood out on Fayette’s defense, which allowed 275 total yards, most of which came in the decisive fourth quarter.
