Mayor’s China junket raises many questions

I’m a little disappointed that there has not been any follow-up to this story [about Peachtree City Mayor Harold Logsdon’s trip to China]. It raises more questions than it answered.

1. Why did we learn about this trip after the trio returned and not before, when some questions as to the appropriateness of our tax dollars providing the transportation might have been raised?

2. How much did the Development Authority spend in order to inspire them to settle in PTC?

3. Did Sany send a contingent here to visit and if so, how much did the Development Authority spend on their visit? What did the city pay for?

4. What other concessions, besides allowing housing on their site, and now a waiver of wet-lands encroachment, have been granted to Sany to come here? Any “discounted” or waiver of property taxes for an extended period of time? Any other concessions or perks provided by the city to Sany?

5. Has anyone seen the expense reports that have been or will be submitted to cover the dates of this trip?

6. Why was it important to visit and tour the Sany facility? They are already committed to locating in PTC. Other than the mayor informing them that they have to wear hard-hats, which could have been done in an email, what positive results were achieved?

7. Has any other foreign company located in Peachtree City ever contacted another company to ask, “Hey, how’s things in Peachtree City?” which seems to be Mayor Logsdon’s stated reason for his good-will mission?

This trip was nothing more than a political pay-off that has already accomplished Sany’s goal — to buy our local officials’ “yes” vote on anything they want.

I am surprised that [The Citizen] didn’t jump all over it and do what you do best: act as the citizens’ watchdog (and I mean resident voters’) advocate.
