Kimbrough, Stanley to lead Bethany’s revival Oct. 4 & 5

Bethany United Methodist Church in north Fayette County will have a revival Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4 and 5, with preaching by the Rev. Walter Kimbrough, senior pastor of Cascade United Methodist Church and national vice chair of Black Methodists for Church Renewal. Music evangelist Joe Stanley will present special music Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Services are scheduled for Saturday evening at 5 p.m., Sunday morning at 11 a.m., and Sunday evening at 5 p.m. A pot luck lunch will follow the Sunday morning service.

Childcare will be provided.

A native Atlantan, Kimbrough received his bachelor of arts degree from Morris Brown College and his master of divinity from the Interdenominational Theological Center, both located in Atlanta. His address, “Reclaiming Our Mission to the City,” appears in the book The World Forever Our Parish and he is the author of Nothing is Impossible, 1992.

He is married to the former Marjorie Lindsay of Berkeley, Calif. Mrs. Kimbrough is an author and faculty member at Clark Atlanta university in the department of religion and philosophy. They are parents of two sons, Walter Mark and Wayne Martin.

Currently, Reverend Kimbrough serves as a member of the North Georgia Conference Committee on Finance and Administration, a member of the Coordinating Committee to Strengthen the Black Church of the United Methodist Church, and member, State Housing Trust Fund for the Homeless Commission. He is also a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

He has served on the boards of many community based organizations including the board of directors of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, board of The American Red Cross, Atlanta Chapter, and a former trustee of Reinhardt College. He is the recipient of many honors and awards.

Historic Bethany UMC has served the Bethany Community since about 1856 when the church was first organized. It is located on the corner of Rivers and Lee’s Lake roads, where Rivers Road changes to Milam Road.
