The Newnan Fire Department has purchased a new Pierce mini pumper. The pumper arrived in Newnan late last week. The new pumper can hold 500 gallons of water per minute. The pumper is capable of backing up all fire engines currently in service. With the addition of the new pumper, it brings the total number of fire engines for the city to six. This new pumper allows the filling of six units in case of an event of public safety emergency such as a natural disaster. “Here at the city and for the Newnan Fire department public safety is always on our minds. It is our number one concern. Purchasing this pumper for the city is a safety measure and the pumper can be used for everyday house fires and other scenarios,” said Newnan Fire Chief David Whitley. “We strive to get the best equipment for the city and our firemen to accomplish to the best of our abilities, our number one goal and that is saving lives, continues Whitley. The cost of the new pumper was $167,000. The unit was purchased with fire impact fees. The pumper is currently being housed at Fire Station III on Temple Avenue.
