The Coweta County Board of Education gave its go-ahead Tuesday to start the redistricting process for the county’s newest elementary school, Brooks Elementary.

The new school is located in northern Coweta County on Jim Starr Road and has a capacity of 950 when it opens in fall, 2009. But school spokesperson Dean Jackson said it will probably contain 600 or so students when it opens to allow for future growth.

The school will draw from students who currently attend Arnco-Sargeant, Northside and Arbor Springs. Jackson said that Canongate will also be brought into the mix because it’s currently overcrowded. Two parents from each school will be appointed to the redistricting committee, and committee meetings are expected to occur all during the fall.

“We’re expecting to get a preliminary proposal to the board before Christmas,’ Jackson added.

After the board studies the proposal, a final version is expected to be voted on in early 2009.
