2008 property tax bills for the year 2008 will be mailed September 15 with a due date of October 31, 2008.  The city would like to remind citizens that anyone owning property in the city of Newnan will receive two separate tax bills, one from the city of Newnan and one from Coweta County, each payable to the appropriate party.

Tax bills, per state law, are being mailed to the owner on record as of January 1, 2008. If you do not get a tax bill for any property you own in the City of Newnan, please call the Finance Department at 770-254-2351. Failure to pay by the due date of October 31, 2008 additional penalties will result.

An additional letter explaining about the state of Georgia rebates to local governments will be included with your tax statement. The city of Newnan has decided to apply the Homestead Relief Tax Grant credit to your tax bill in anticipation of the General Assembly honoring the State’s obligation to retain this program in the amended budget.

However, if the state does not fund the Homestead Relief Tax Grant to the City, it will be placed in a position where a second tax bill will be sent to you to recover the credit. The city’s budget is based on receiving the full rebate from the HTRG Program from the State of Georgia.

There will be 13,714 tax bills mailed this year. No extensions will be allowed.

Citizens can pay taxes online, in person at City Hall or by mail to P.O. Box 1193, Newnan, GA, 30264. Go to www.newnantaxes.com to pay online. Please call the city’s finance department at 770-254-2351 if you have questions or need additional information
