A three-hour standoff involving 53 year-old Robert Suttles at his 230 Patricia Lane home off Ginger Cake Road near Fayetteville ended without incident after he surrendered to Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies and SWAT team members. No one was injured in the incident and no charges had been filed at this time. The reason for the standoff is currently unknown.

Deputies responded to an alarm call at the residence at approximately 7:15 p.m., according to sheriff’s spokesperson Belinda McCastle.

As they arrived, deputies found Suttles in the driveway in his underwear and holding a handgun, McCastle said. Deputies called for back-up after Suttles retreated into the house.

Initial reports indicated that a family friend was communicating with Suttles by phone. Also in contact with him was a hostage negotiator, reports said.

SWAT members at 10:25 p.m. went onto the porch and issued a verbal order for Suttles to surrender himself. Suttles complied and was taken into custody without incident.

SWAT members cleared the house, finding no one else inside.

Though he apparently sustained no injuries, Suttles is being transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
