The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City will host a community preparedness event Sept. 16 to help citizens become better prepared to respond to emergencies.

The event at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville is part of the 5th Annual National Preparedness Month (NPM) activities, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security’s “Ready” campaign.

Speakers from a number of agencies will participate, including John Oxendine, Georgia State Insurance Commissioner.

The event will conclude with a “Question and Answer session” and awarding of door prizes. First 30 admitted receive a free gift (one per family).

NPM is a nationwide coordinated effort encouraging families to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.

Attendees will receive valuable local emergency preparedness information designed to educate them about the types of emergencies that can happen; how to make emergency supply kits; create a family emergency plan; and, how they can support their community’s emergency preparedness efforts.

The event will run from 7-9 p.m. Sams Auditorium is located at 205 Lafayette Avenue in Fayetteville.
