Senoia’s annual car show will remain on Main Street.

The car show was set to move to the parking lot behind the Redneck Gourmet building for this year’s edition after a group of downtown merchants said it would adversely affect their business.

But at a recent City Council meeting, an equal number of merchants said they wanted the show to stay on Main Street and have the street closed.

Police chief Olitta Bennett said if the show was moved, that there was still a possibility the city would have to close down Main Street because of safety hazards involved with a large crowd.

The fourth annual Cruisin to the Oldies Car Show will now run from 1 p.m.-9 p.m. on September 27.

The event is open to street rods, muscle cars, motorcycles and antique cars of all kinds.

The Varsity will be cooking their famous favorites from 1 p.m.-8 p.m., along with Churn‘N Scoop Homemade Ice Cream, Hawaiian Shaved Ice, Kettle Corn, and homemade fudge and pies. In addition, the downtown restaurants and shops will be open late.

Scott Sargeant and Charlie Filkins of High Octane Radio, 92.5 the Bear, “The Car Guys” of Nulink TV Channel 10 and NBC 38 WLTZ will emcee the festivities. Vocalist and concert performer, Conner Lorre will be singing music from the 50s and 60s from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Following will be entertainment featuring oldies but goodies music from that era.

Trophies will be awarded to participants in several categories and there will be door prizes for registered car owners, as well as goodie bags for the first 150 who register their vehicles. Registration is $15 in advance and $20 the day of the show. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. in the DDA tent on Main Street near the stage.

This free event is sponsored by the Senoia Downtown Development Authority and proceeds go toward future DDA projects. Go to the Senoia website at www.senoia.com to download a registration form, or call Gail Downs at 770-599-9155 or Suzanne Helfman at 770-599-8182 for more information.
