VETTING

I looked up this dumb word since I have sen it so many times recently and wasn't exactly sure where it came from.
Now, it means to check out someone for not having something embarrassing in their background, or that they may be a liar.

However, it came from horse racing.
There have always been crooks in every enterprise. So horses that were checked by doctors of animals (Vets) checked the horses for various things.

Now we also check humans for various things--it also is not scientific!
