The young and inexperienced McIntosh Lady Chiefs proved that you don’t need experience to put together a high-scoring game.

McIntosh pounded Tri-Cities 26-0 in three innings Thursday night on the road.

Saying the The Lady Chiefs (2-7) are inexperienced is an understatement; they have only two upperclassmen (both seniors) and an astounding 12 underclassmen (five sophomores, seven freshman).

McIntosh didn’t start the game with much of a bang — it opened the first inning with only one run— but, boy, did its bats deliver in the second inning.

The Lady Chiefs pelted Tri-Cities’ pitching in the second, scoring 20 runs.
McIntosh added five runs in the third to bring the game-ending mercy rule into effect.

The Lady Chiefs had three players who were perfect at the plate: Katie Sowers, a freshman, who went 5-for-5 with four singles, one triple and six RBI, Ariel Shaw, a senior, who went 5-for-5 with four singles, one walk and three RBI, and Jessica Conaway, a senior, who went 4-for-4 with two singles, one home run, and three RBI.

Christine Mobley also stood out at the plate for McIntosh, going 3-for -4 with two singles, one walk and three RBI.

A quartet of freshmen added at least one RBI: Rachel Frederick (freshman, two), Melissa Markhardt (freshman, one), Linsey Hearn (sophomore, one) and Kara Wright (sophomore, one).

Frederick struck out six, walked one and hit one batter in three innings to pick up the victory.

Whitewater also recorded a blowout victory, 15-0 over Mays.

Whitney Toler was outstanding both on the mound and at the plate for the Lady Wildcats. She pitched a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts and went 3-for-3 with four RBI.

Melanie Ennis went 3-for-3 with two runs, Jamie Saunders went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and three RBI and McKenzie Mosley went 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs for Whitewater.

Sandy Creek lost to Alexander 7-6 Thursday.

Creek’s top players were Alice Boone, who hit a triple, scored a run and had three RBI, and Candace Dunn, Meagan Sitton, Kayla Awbrey and Andrea Dalton, all of whom had one or more hits that advanced runners.

Mallory Muncher also had an RBI, and MacKenzie Arlt had two hits and a walk.
