Piedmont Newnan Hospital has formally acquired ownership of 105 acres of land on Poplar Road near Interstate 85, where its new hospital facility will be located. After receiving approval to develop the land from the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the hospital released funds from escrow and closed on the land late last week.

“We are thrilled to officially own the property where our new hospital facility will be located,” said Michael Bass, president and CEO of Piedmont Newnan Hospital. “This has been a highly anticipated moment, and we will now move forward in implementing the development and construction plans for our community’s new hospital facility.”

Piedmont Newnan Hospital will begin preparing the land for development in October, and a formal groundbreaking ceremony will occur later this fall.

Plans for the new Piedmont Newnan Hospital include a 362,376-square-foot, 136-bed hospital facility on nine floors. Private, inpatient rooms will be adaptable to varying acuity needs of patients and will include 14 post-partum beds, 18 critical care beds and 104 general medical/surgical patient beds. The facility will feature 8 operating rooms and 23 patient rooms in the Emergency Department.

“The community’s healthcare needs have been and will continue to be at the forefront as we develop and construct our new hospital. With features such as designated green spaces, advanced technology and simplified access to our clinical services and patient destinations, this facility will provide an optimal setting for efficient, quality patient care in a nurturing and comfortable environment,” Bass continued.

Phase I of the campus development will include the hospital as well as a support services building to house areas such as human resources, cardiac rehabilitation and education. Plans call for approximately 1,000 parking spaces to accommodate patients, visitors and staff.

The hospital will utilize sustainable building strategies, such as energy efficiencies and water reuse and conservation technologies, in an effort to reduce future operating costs, provide a healthier work environment, and reduce the overall environmental impact of the project. It has been designed to comply with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™.
