Alzheimer’s Association plans get underway for 2008 Memory Walk

A group of Fayette County volunteers is on board to do their part in combating a dreaded disease that has a dramatic impact on Georgia’s families. There are more than 199,000 people in Georgia diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, a disorder involving dementia and increased memory loss that primarily attacks the elderly.

The majority of affected individuals are cared for by family members in the home (caregivers). Funds must be raised to support the many programs sponsored by the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to assist both the afflicted and the caregiver.

Over the next six weeks volunteers will recruit teams to solicit financial donations from businesses and individuals in Fayette County. It will culminate with participants from six counties attending the Southern Crescent Memory Walk in Peachtree City on Saturday, October 4.

Recently, committee members and team captains gathered at the Outback Steakhouse in Peachtree City to discuss this year’s strategy.
