Fayette County School Superintendent John DeCotis last week was named one of four finalists statewide for the 2009 Georgia School Superintendent of the Year award.

Superintendents from Georgia’s 182 school districts were in the running for the award that will be presented by the Georgia School Superintendents Association Winter Conference in December.

Each of the four finalists will now complete the lengthy application furnished by the American Association of School Administrators, and after reviewing those applications, the selection committee will choose Georgia’s 2009 Superintendent of the Year, said Fayette School system spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach.

DeCotis was selected as a finalist for the honor from approximately 20 nominations. The other finalists include Beverly Hall from Atlanta Public Schools, Beauford Hicks from Mitchell County and Sam King from Rockdale County.
