Donna Argenetto, a Georgia transplant from Upper Darby, Pa., has been named Woman of the Year at the Catholic Church of St. Gabriel in Fayetteville.

More than 10 women in the parish were nominated for the top honor.

Argenetto now will represent the Fayetteville parish at a Mass and luncheon on Feb. 18 at the Archdiocesan level, which will bring together women from all Catholic churches in the Atlanta area. The Mass will be at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta at 10 a.m. and Atlanta Archbishop Wilton Gregory will preside.

Argenetto has been married to her husband, Mark, for more than 32 years and is the mother of three children, who live in Pennsylvania and Georgia. The Argenettos reside in south Fayette near the Catholic church.

“We have many women in the parish that could have won this award,” said Fr. Jimmy Adams, pastor of the Catholic community in Fayetteville. “Donna has really done a lot this year and is very deserving. She has given of herself in so many ways and it is so good to see her recognized by her peers. She is a great example for others to follow.”

Argenetto has been chairperson of the annual parish rummage sale for the past two years and says this has become her pride and joy ahead of all her volunteering efforts.

“The rummage sale is a lot of work but a lot of fun. We did great last year but this year we will do even better,” Argenetto said.

She also is involved with the parish council, the softball team managed by her husband where she was the unofficial “mother,” the parish kitchen, and various other organizations within the parish of 650 families.

The Catholic Church of St. Gabriel is on Antioch Road, just south of the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 92 South and Antioch. For more information about the church, call the parish office, 770-461-0492.
